Arval, the global leader in full-service leasing and sustainable mobility solutions, is expanding its first international biodiversity project launched in 8 countries at Arval in 2021 to include all remaining countries in which the company operates, 2022. A tree is planted for every electric vehicle (electric and hybrid) that Arval rents. Local projects have been identified in 17 countries while the remaining 11 countries will contribute to a global project in Peru. The goal is to enhance local biodiversity and engage Arval employees and customers. Until the end of 2025, Arval’s ambition was to fund more than 700,000 trees in line with the Arval Beyond strategy.
Growing concern about climate change has led to sustainability being at the heart of CSR strategies around the world. The climate challenge continues to be of great importance every year, and Arval has a good starting point for driving positive changes towards sustainable mobility and actively participating in the work for a better climate. CSR plays a key role in the strategic plan, Arval Beyond, with an upwardly revised ambition for 2025 CSR: 700,000 electric vehicles in the Arval fleet (which represents 35% of Arval’s global fleet).
The project was first launched in the eight Arval countries where the largest volume of electric vehicles were delivered in 2021. The countries include Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom. By the end of 2021, more than 97,000 trees have already been funded. After being implemented in these countries, the project was expanded to the remaining Arval countries in 2022.
The project is an excellent opportunity to take measures to protect forests, undertake biodiversity conservation and combat deforestation, while promoting the transition to electric vehicles.
By 2025, Arval will have funded more than 700,000 trees globally.
By expanding this project, Arval will be able to support replanting projects and benefit the environment. Arval will be able to measure the environmental and social benefits that each replanting project contributes.
The total expected benefits at the end of 2025 are:
- 105,000 tons of stored carbon dioxide
- 2,100,000 new animal shelters
- 2,800,000 months of oxygen generated
- Create 700,000 working hours
“With the One Electric Car = One Tree project, we have woven corporate social responsibility at the core of our business, and we expect each employee and customer to begin a sustainable journey towards moving to more electric vehicles,” says Alan van Groenendel, President of Arval and VD.
