Intel "Alder Lake" architecture reused in Core i5-13400

Intel “Alder Lake” architecture reused in Core i5-13400

By the end of September, AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 processors are hitting both test labs and stores, and along the same lines, Intel is expected to unveil the “Raptor Lake” 13000 Series Core. Unlike the new Ryzen generation, news from Intel will be more gradual, with the company remaining, for example, on the same LGA 1700 platform that was introduced with the Core 12000 “Alder Lake” series. Leaked spec sheets reveal that the biggest news for the Lake Raptor will be more power-efficient cores, higher clock rates, and more cache.

However, the latter does not necessarily apply to all writers with the sharp eyes of the German Report Core 13000 series 3DCenter. Posted earlier this week Igor lab A set of presentation images about the Core 13000 series, which by all accounts is official material that came out of Intel’s hands. In addition to the specifications for a number of upcoming models, rendering images suggest that the simpler Core i5 and Core i3 processors will actually be “Alder Lake”Modernization.

The spec sheet expands on what was previously revealed as the integrated graphics portion, but also confirms that the maximum power draw (PL2) is up by a few watts. Image source: Igor lab

Specifically, the presentation slides say that the amount of L2 and L3 cache runs only for unlocked Core i5 processors and for their more powerful siblings. This upgrade is related to the refined “Lake Raptor” geometry, which replaces the “Golden Cove” for the powerful cores. Thus, the simpler and more wallet-friendly processors such as Core i5-13400 and Core i3-13100 continue on the basis of “Alder Lake”, but apparently with higher clock frequencies.

It can be added that it is not the first time that Intel or AMD has chosen to mix the new and the old, accompanying the blue team for example. Core 11000 “Rocket Lake” with Modernization of Core 10000 in low-performance sectors. Then the processors kept the old nameplate, which is why the secret maneuver that awaits with the Core 13000 is somewhat reminiscent of AMD’s mix of Zen 2 and Zen 3 in the mobile Ryzen 5000 family. The future and testing will tell us whether buying enthusiasts will do their best to upgrade to the more generous “Lake Raptor” models.
