All three of the Ingebrigtsen brothers started in the men’s race over 10 km. But it was only big favorite Jakob Ingebrigtsen who stayed ahead of the fast-paced race.
The Olympic gold medalist from Tokyo left Briton Emil Keers a few kilometers to go. However, it turned out that the Norwegian was cold. He caught up and cruised to victory at the halfway point on the last lap – taking his eleventh European Cross Country Championships medal, in a time of 29.33.
– He is perfect in his way of going. It has the advantage of being able to run quickly and change pace, says Erik Hamrin-Senorski, SVT Sports Expert.
Keirs was second and Isaac Kimeli of Belgium third. Emil Danielsson was the best Swede at 28th. Orienteer Max Peter Bejmer was 39th.
German-Norwegian duel
On the women’s side, there was a Norwegian-German duel on the women’s side between Caroline Berkeley Grovedal and Konstanze Klostralven. The big Norwegian star was seriously challenged but pulled away in the race and won. Citizen Alina Reh came in third place.
It was Grovedale’s ninth medal in the EC region.
– It’s absolutely incredible, says Hamrin Sinorsky.
The top five Swedish women was Smrawit Mengstep, who came in seventh place. Sarah Lahti had a tougher day and finished 19th.
In the team competition, Germany beat Great Britain and Ireland in the women’s competition, and France tied for the longest in the men’s competition, ahead of Italy and Spain.
