During the year, women born in the 90s are given a free vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer. It is usually an expensive vaccination. One dose costs just over SEK 1,400, and two doses are needed for the vaccination to be sufficient.
On the same day that student Igzuna Dakkaj, 26, heard about the Kronoberg region’s vaccine offer, she decided to make an appointment.
– My aunt died of cervical cancer in October. So, obviously protect yourself now that you have the chance to do so. When my aunt passed away, it was a wake-up call, says Ijzuna Dakkaj.
Vaccination has been canceled twice
But it turns out that vaccination is easier said than done. Igzona’s vaccination appointment was canceled twice due to illness at the health center, before she could get her injection.
– It was difficult to find a date, because most of the dates were several months in advance. She says there were no dates available.
The Kronoberg district confirms that there has been a lot of pressure on some health centers in the center of Vaxjo, but on the other hand, there are a lot of vacancies elsewhere.
– We have 32 care centers in the county and most of them are not fully booked, says Lisa Oberg, project manager in the Kronoberg region.
