It already came to light last fall that H&M would start charging for revenue. The idea was to test this as part of improving profitability and first in Norway and Great Britain.

We are now testing chargebacks as a possible course of action we can take. But our progress depends on how customers react, commented H&M CEO Helena Helmerson.

Not applicable to members

There appears to be no outcry among the country’s consumers, and according to a spokesperson for H&M, the clothing giant has been charging revenue since the end of summer.

So customers have to pay £1.99, which is roughly 27 kroner, to return packages purchased online. However, this does not apply to free redeemable memberships.

In Norway, the clothing company also now charges for the activity, something it has done since trials began last year. Specifically, NOK 29 if you are not a member. However, returns to the store are free for everyone.

Competitors such as Zara, Boohoo, Uniqlo and Next have previously introduced payments for online income.
