In the Race of Champions there is a national competition on Saturday and an individual competition on Sunday. It all happens in a one-on-one meeting of two (or four in teams) and then the winner moves on while the loser gets eliminated.
Sebastien Loeb won last year’s Individual Race of Champions after beating Sebastian Vettel in the final. Norway won the team competition through father and son Peter and Oliver Solberg.
Last year’s Race of Champions was decided in Betio for the first time.

This is how the national competition takes place on Saturday, with the team made up of the winners of an esports competition that takes place inside Pite Havsbad on a course similar to the one outside on the beach.
Saturday

Quarter-finals:

Sweden (Johan Kristofferson / Matthias Ekström) vs Nordic countries (Tom Christensen / Felix Rosenqvist).
United States of America (Travis Pastrana/Tanner Faust) vs all Stars (Felipe Drugovich / Thierry Nouvel).
The winners from the qualifiers meet in the quarter-finals.
