Great Britain: Boris Johnson announces his resignation
Boris Johnson said in his resignation speech outside the Prime Minister’s Residence today that I am incredibly proud of the completion of Brexit.
Boris Johnson’s rule in Great Britain is now over – but he will remain until the party elects a new leader.
Talk to the country today
– Boris Johnson said it was clearly the will of the Conservative Party in Parliament that there should be a new leader for that party and therefore a new Prime Minister.
He assured that he would support the new leader of the country.
– He said I have agreed with Sir Graham Brady that the process of selecting a new captain must now begin.
The announcement comes after newly appointed Education Secretary Michelle Donnellan resigned just 36 hours after her appointment. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace also announced that he was withdrawing his support for the prime minister.
Northern Ireland Minister Brandon Lewis also resigned.
New leader of the party
New elections for the leaders of the British ruling party will be held this summer, according to BBC News.
It also means that a new prime minister will be in office ahead of the Conservative Party’s fall conference in October.
The Conservatives have lost at the polls and they will lose to the Social Democratic Labor Party if elections are held today. It is one of the many important factors behind the recent unrest.
