It is already known that Germany will host the European Championship in 2024, and now there are reports that the championship may have found its home.
The Daily Mail reports that the United Kingdom and Ireland could be named host countries for the European Championship 2028. According to reports, the alleged nations plan to hold a formal bid for the championship, the only bid UEFA will make. That should be on the table in that case.
The Daily Mail reports that Turkey would like to hold auctions only if it is not comparable, and that Russia is not currently an option due to the Ukraine invasion. Thus, the United Kingdom and Ireland may be left alone in this process.
The formal bidding process for the European Championship 2028 will last until September 2023, but if a single bid is received – if the United Kingdom and Ireland succeed in meeting the UEFA’s technical requirements – the host country may be decided earlier.
England, Great Britain hosted the 1996 European Championship.
