Google announced this week that it will stop developing Android Auto on its mobile screen app. This app was undoubtedly good for anyone who didn’t have an app from a car built into Android Auto.
For people using Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience won’t go away – and in fact we’ve announced an upcoming improvement to the main user interface at Google I/O. For those using the mobile experience (Android Auto mobile app), they’ll be taken to driving mode. The Google Assistant is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. We don’t have more details to share at this time.
So if you want Android Auto in your car, you need to get an Android Auto screen or simply get a new car that supports Android Auto.
Now, this decision may not have been entirely unexpected as already last year Google started banning the app for newer Android 12 devices. Looks like Google wants people who don’t have Android Auto in the car to start using it instead Google Assistant for Navigation But it lacks a lot of the functionality that Android Auto provides.
