Express bus company FlixBus has now launched the first all-electric long-distance service in Great Britain. The route runs from London to Bristol and Newport in South Wales. The initiative is a three-month pilot project. Transport is operated by electric bus from China Yutong.
According to FlixBus in the UK, the new route will save 352 kilograms of CO2 emissions every day compared to an average diesel-powered bus. This corresponds to 21 tons of CO2 during the trial period or 21 tons of CO2 if the project lasts for one year.
The Yutong TCE12 bus has room for 46 passengers and is equipped with a wheelchair lift. Battery capacity is 282 kWh. Charging takes place in London and Newport.
Already in 2018, FlixBus tested electric buses on two of its routes, partly between Paris and Amiens in France, partly between Frankfurt and Mannheim in Germany (click here). There, the company used an electric bus from BYD. However, after several technical problems with the bus and its batteries, the service was discontinued after a year.
