Fiona the sheep has been rescued after being isolated in Britain

For at least two years, Fiona the sheep has been stranded on the coast of a steep and remote cliff in the Scottish Highlands.
Now she is saved from loneliness.
“She was in good physical condition, although she needed trimming,” writes the animal rights organization SPCA.

In 2021, Jillian Turner was out paddling when she discovered a lone goat on a remote cliff in the Scottish Highlands. Two years later, she passed the same beach – and discovered that the sheep were still in the same place.

The sheep, named Fiona, caught the attention of local media and a petition was quickly set up to save her.

The sheep is known as “the world’s loneliest sheep”.

– Poor Eve has been alone for at least two years. “For a pack animal, it must be torture, and on both occasions when we passed her she seemed to be desperately trying to contact us,” Jillian Turner said earlier. Northern Times previous

Efforts to save Fiona ‘incredibly complicated’

The Scottish animal rights organization SPCA said any attempt to save the sheep would be “incredibly complicated”, the newspaper said.

On Saturday, a group of farmers led by a man named Cameron Wilson went to the remote cliff to begin the rescue operation. This happened after Wilson saw an article in the local newspaper that dealt with Fiona’s vulnerable situation.

The SPCA also participated during the mission.

“We were informed that this rescue had to be done, so we attended to support and monitor the animal’s well-being,” the organization wrote in X during Saturday.

The rescue was successful and one of the organization’s inspectors checked on Fiona and later said she was fine.

“She was in good physical condition, although she was in need of trimming,” the SPCA wrote in the statement.

It is still unclear how Fiona ended up on the beach below the cliff.

After being rescued, Fiona will now be taken to a special home where she will rest and recover.
