At the meeting with the Defense Ministers of Finland, Sweden and Great Britain in Stockholm on 30 June 2017, Minister Niinistö will sign an instrument of accession relating to Finland's participation in Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) activities.
Ministers Hultqvist, Fallon and Niinisto.
The aim of a cooperation built around the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), if led by Great Britain, is to support the development and maintenance of the military readiness of the countries participating in the cooperation. The force currently includes the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Denmark and Estonia.
Finland's participation is based on the need to develop the capabilities of the armed forces and cooperation skills. The participation also deepens defense cooperation between Finland, Great Britain and other participating countries. Sweden participates in the activity in the same way at its national headquarters. The participation of Finland and Sweden has been prepared in close cooperation. Finland's contribution to the GEF force will be determined as plans progress in participation.
The guidelines for Finland's participation in Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) activities have been drawn up by the Ministerial Committee for Foreign and Security Policy of the Cabinet.
