Charging operator Fastned has just opened Europe’s fastest charger for passenger cars. This is part of a new pilot project in partnership with EVBox. The new charger unveiled by Fastned has an output of 400 kW and is located in De Watering, the Netherlands.
Fast chargers can provide a range of 100 kilometers in 3 minutes – even though there are no compatible electric cars capable of handling that speed today. Alternatively, the charger can distribute power to two electric cars, each capable of receiving 200 kW.
Fastned’s new charger breaks the old record of 360 kW set by it ABB charger in Sollefteå. The charger was installed this summer by Norwegian operator Evini and is of the ABB Terra 360 type.
The fastned installed charger is called Troniq Modular High-Power, so it’s the first of its kind. Chargers are especially developed for high-traffic areas, where it is especially important to quickly reduce charging times.
– During the pilot, EVBox and Fastned will work together to improve the user experience and communication between the charger and Fastned’s backend system. Roland van der Putt, head of charging technology at Fastned, commented, “We are constantly investing in improving the speed and reliability of the charger to provide our customers with a better customer experience.
Fastned today distributes around 1,000 fast chargers across the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, France and Switzerland.
