EC match in Karlstad as Sweden take on Great Britain in American football

After finishing fourth in last year's EC, Sweden fell to Italy in the fight for bronze, and now it's time for a new EC competition for the Swedish Men's National Team in US Soccer. The European Championship 2024/25 begins for the Swedish side on October 13 with a match against Great Britain in Karlstad.

Sweden's men's national team has had strong results at the recent EC Championships with a silver medal in 2021 and fourth place in 2023. On Sunday, 13 October 15, the European Championship 2024/25 begins when Sweden host Great Britain at the Sola Arena in Karlstad. After that, the match against Germany will take place on October 26. The championship ends in 2025.

The tournament in Karlstad is organized by SWE3 – the Swedish Association for American Football, Flag Football and Field Hockey in association with the Carlstad Crusaders, who became the Swedish champions in both women's and men's American football this year. Organizers are looking forward to a folk festival at the Sola Arena in October.

– We are happy and grateful to present the new Sola Arena and invite visitors to Karlstad to an international match, says Karlstad Crusaders President Maria Mangelin.

New national team captain ahead of qualifiers

Sweden's national team against Great Britain is led by new national team captain Bjorn Masetti, 26 years old, who works for Malmö association Limham Griffins. Mazetti was previously in charge of the Swedish youth national team and succeeds BD Kennedy as national team captain – 6 out of 9 internationals as national team captain between 2019 and 2023 – ahead of this autumn's EC.

– It's a fantastic opportunity to lead Sweden's best players at senior level. I look forward to guiding the men's national team to new victories and our home game against Great Britain on October 13 is an important start to the journey, says Björn Masetti.

Sweden's men's national football team last met Great Britain in 2019, with Sweden winning 36-14 (16-0) in a rain-soaked match in Kristianstad.
