Disappointed Kronoberg district – hopes for the rush to free up the HPV vaccine

Disappointed Kronoberg district – hopes for the rush to free up the HPV vaccine

The campaign started at the beginning of the year and will continue throughout the year. The region wants to reach women born in the 90s because this age group does not have as high a vaccination rate as younger women.

In addition, the new vaccine has a ripple effect. Previously, the Gardasil 4 vaccine was introduced, which only protected against four different types of HPV. There is now Gardasil 9 – a vaccine that protects against nine types of human papillomavirus (HPV).

Less pollination than expected

In all, there are 6,800 women who belong to the target group in Kronoberg County and more than 1,000 women have accepted the offer.

We might have expected more pressure at the beginning. We need to be able to get to at least half and preferably 75 percent in order to be really satisfied and have the impact we want, says Lisa Oberg, project manager for the campaign in the Kronoberg region.

The cost of a dose is 1400 SEK

The project is part of a research study from the Karolinska University Hospital, after prof Request from the Riksdag Cervical cancer must be eradicated within seven years. All regions in Sweden are participating to get more women under the age of 30 vaccinated against HPV.

– A dose comes to SEK 1,400, so this is a very generous offer. Plus, you can get tested to see if you actually have HPV, says Lisa Oberg.
