Corsair’s new SSD reaches speeds of up to 10GB/s

During the fall, the first consumer-grade SSDs with PCI Express 5.0 support will be released, when read and write speeds are expected to increase significantly compared to previous models using PCI Express 4.0. Earlier this week, Samsung’s first PCI Express 5.0 compatible device appeared in a database, in addition, many well-known players will release their own models.

One such player is American Corsair, as in a new player landing page As for AMD’s upcoming AM5 platform, the first performance figures show the upcoming MP700 SSD. In the published chart, the new device shows sequential read speeds of 10,000 MB/s while the sequential write speed is set at 9500 MB/s.

The provided speeds are well below the theoretical maximum of four lanes of PCI Express 5.0, but at the same time it is not uncommon for first-generation devices that the new interface is not able to completely saturate the communication bus. Interestingly, however, the numbers are also lower than those provided for Phison-equipped models from Apacer and Zadak, allegedly as high as 13,000 MB/s sequential reads and 12,000 MB/s sequential writes.

Now, Corsair doesn’t reveal the control circuit they use with the MP700, but given the company’s close collaboration with Phison on previous models, it’s not likely that the latter will be responsible for that part this time either. Whether Corsair is more realistic with its announced performance numbers or whether it’s actually offering slower speeds than the competition remains to be seen at launch – which is expected to happen in conjunction with AMD’s Ryzen 7000 rollout.
