Climate activists from the Extinction Rebellion network closed four bridges across the River Thames in London on Friday in protest of the British government’s climate policy.
These are the Blackfriars, Waterloo, Westminster and Lambeth bridge.
“As long as our government fails to act to stop the climate crisis, and despite the advice of experts who have been given licenses to explore for more oil and gas, scientists will be jailed. We have no choice but to annoy,” he writes. Extinction Rebellion on Twitter.
On Wednesday, nine researchers were arrested in connection with a protest in front of the British Department of Energy.
Last week, the British government unveiled a new security strategy for energy issues in the wake of the Russian attack on Ukraine and soaring inflation. The strategy includes an increased focus on nuclear power and renewables, but also oil from the North Sea.
