Long jumper Christian Poli finished his seven-week training camp with a competition in Andujar, Spain. Poli was half a meter away from his own Finnish record, but he still thought the result was predictable.
Now Finland’s best long jumpers have also started their competition season.
Pauli, the Finnish long jump record holder, participated in a competition held in Spain on Friday.
He pulled away with his best jump of the final round in windy conditions. The result was 7.76 meters with a tailwind of +0.6 m/s. With this result, he ranked fourth.
The season opener was just short of Poli’s Finnish record of 8.27 metres. However, the result of the competition in Spain is derived from a seven-week training camp in Portugal.
– It was an opening competition as you can expect after a grueling training camp. It was observed that the best forces were missing in the body, says Pauly in a press release.
– My second jump in the competition was probably the best, but it was overdone. I felt like I couldn’t recharge as well on the other jumps.
The rest is on schedule
What an early competition season looks like for Polley is still unclear.
– Now I am coming to Finland, I will rest and recover. We will plan competitions according to how I recover.
The competition was won by Cuban Lester Lescay with a score of 8.09 metres. China’s Huang Changchuta took second place with a distance of 8.01 metres, while local jumper Hector Santos took third place. Santos’ result was 7.94 metres.
