Changes in WC groups – Tre Kronor will not have to face the champions

Groups in the WC are based on world rankings, but due to two requests from participating countries, there are now two changes.
Changes affecting three kroner.

When the International Ice Hockey Federation released the groups for next year’s world championships in the Czech Republic, as in 2015, with Prague and Ostrava, Sweden was drawn in a group with Canada, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Kazakhstan, France and Slovakia. It will settle in Ostrava but within a year it won’t really be like that.

At the request of the organizers, two changes were made, as champions Canada left Sweden’s group and were replaced by the United States, but the venue will remain the same.

– Thanks to the fact that the Czech Republic and Slovakia were already in different groups, we were able to fulfill another request, says WC Director John Cerny on the IIHF’s website and continues:

– Poles are big sports fans and we think they won’t miss this one.

That means Poland has re-entered the first division of the WC for the first time in 22 years after playing from Division B this spring.

WC groups
A (Prague).
Canada, Finland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Austria, United Kingdom
B (Ostrava) USA, Germany, Sweden, Slovakia, Latvia, France, Kazakhstan, Poland
