Thousands of meters in the air, passengers on a Delta flight from Amsterdam had an unpleasant experience, to say the least.

Caterpillars suddenly began to descend in large numbers onto several rows of chairs.

Passenger Philippe Schott describes how a woman was infected with several maggots and how she panicked.

– He says she kind of tried to ward off the worms Fox 2 Detroit.

– I don't know what thoughts ran through my head at that time. I tried to deal with it – but I also felt disgusted.

Philipp Schott himself had to crawl elsewhere to avoid the larvae.

The plane, which was en route from Amsterdam to Detroit, was forced to return just hours after take-off.

Luggage with rotten fish

The caterpillar rain was caused by an “improperly packed cabin bag” with rotten fish wrapped in newspaper that began to leak.

Flight attendants moved the leaking luggage to the back of the plane, where it was stored until the plane landed.

“I am surprised that no rotten fish and live larvae were discovered at the security check,” passenger Philippe Schott tells Fox 2.

Delta Air Lines apologized on Fox 2 for the incident.

– The plane returned to the gate and passengers were allowed to board the next available flight. Delta said in a statement that the plane was taken out of service for cleaning.
