On Thursday, local and regional elections will be held in large parts of the UK. Labor is expected to win the election, and a big loss for Sunak's Conservatives could see him lose confidence.

Members are appointed to more than a hundred local councils in England in Thursday's local elections in Great Britain. In addition, for example, some mayors and police chiefs are appointed.

Hundreds of the 2,600 seats up for election are expected to go from the ruling Conservatives to Labour. This is dangerous ahead of the parliamentary elections due in late January next year.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to call the polls in the second half of 2024 before then.

Sunak sits uncertainly

Great Britain Prime Minister Rishi Chung is uncertain about the election. If things go too badly, it could mean Sunak loses the confidence of MPs in his own Conservative Party, also known as the Tories.

For a vote of confidence, 52 of the 345 members of the Conservative Party should lose confidence in Sunak.

In the run-up to the election, Sunak defended himself by deploying rhetoric on popular issues in the Conservative Party: more money for defence, slashing benefits and promoting the Rwanda project.
