Birmingham City Council in England appears to be in financial trouble following an unexpectedly high Oracle bill. Register.
Earlier, a court in Great Britain decided that the municipality of Birmingham must pay 760 million pounds, equivalent to approximately 10.6 billion kroner, as a result of demands for equal pay. In addition, the Commission’s estimated costs of implementing Oracle’s system have been shown to range from 20 million pounds, corresponding to approximately 279 million kroner, to approximately 100 million pounds, corresponding to approximately 1.39 billion kroner.
The city’s plan is to switch from SAP to Oracle Fusion. Due to increased project costs, delays, cost overruns and lack of control. According to The Register, the transition will be more difficult as the city previously used a heavily modified version of SAP, whose functionality proved difficult to reproduce in Oracle. Oracle did not comment on the situation.
Birmingham has now submitted a request for strategic support to the Local Government Association, the national membership body for local authorities in England and Wales.
