Places can now be booked at the Swim England Sports Science and Medicine Conference 2024.
It will take place on Sunday 17 March at Nottingham Eastwood Park Hotel between 9am and 4pm.
The conference targets sports science and sports medicine practitioners and coaches, and includes eight speakers giving presentations on a range of topics.
These include athlete training, the transition from junior to senior, the physiological difference between male and female athletes, women's nutrition and period management.
There will also be a presentation on female player psychology.
Cost per day is £60.

- 9:15 AM – 9:30 AM: Welcome and introduction
Diane Elliott, Director of Sports Medicine and Science at Swimming England - 9.30am – 10.15am: Player training – Ryan Livingstone
Ryan currently coaches James Guy and Matt Richards and has helped Emily Large move through the age group ranks to become a key member of the British team. He will explain his style of training females and how that differs from training male athletes. - 10:15-11am: Going from Beginner to Advanced (Part 1) – Dan Waddingham and Gemma Hathaway
Daniel is a British Swimming strength and conditioning coach, based at the National Disability Center in Manchester. Previously, he was the Head Athlete Development Coach at Millfield and worked part-time researching and exploring the factors that limit the transition from junior to senior swimming alongside Gemma. They will present their findings and the framework they developed at this conference. Gemma is the Lead Athlete Development Coach at Wycombe and District Swimming Club. She also works for Swim England and has developed the framework for the transition from junior to senior alongside Dan. - 11am – 11:15am: Break
- 11:15 AM – 12 PM: Physiological Differences Between Male and Female Athletes – Craig Robertson
Craig is currently completing a PhD on the effects of hypoxic training in swimming. He is the Principal Physiologist at the English Swimming Association and currently leads the endurance programme, working alongside British Swimming. The conference will discuss the differences between female and male physiology and how this applies to training. - 12pm – 12:30pm: Reds and Women's Nutrition – Josh Dyson
Josh is Swim England's Lead Performance Nutritionist. It provides specific nutritional advice for women and how this differs from male requirements. It will cover the main points of relative energy deficiency in sport. - 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM: Lunch
- 1:15 pm – 2:15 pm: Menstrual cycle management – Dr. Natalie Brown
Dr. Brown is one of the leading physiologists and completed her PhD studying the female menstrual cycle. She was previously Senior Physiologist at Swim Wales before completing her PhD. She will deliver the menstrual cycle in aqua athletes at the conference. - 2:15pm – 3:15pm: Going from Junior to Senior (Part 2) – Dan Waddingham and Gemma Hathaway
- 3:15 PM – 3:30 PM: Break
- 3:45pm – 4pm: Gamer Psychology – Alex Stowell
Alex is the Principal Performance Psychologist at Swim England and is currently working on a PhD, studying female performance and the psychological aspects that may limit their performance. - 4 pm: Closing of the conference
