Great Britain away – this will be the next challenge for Sweden’s tennis women. The winner qualifies for next year’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifier.
Sweden’s women’s national team is one step closer to the elite division at the Billie Jean King Cup after a resounding victory in this year’s group stage in the Europe-Africa group.
The playoff game against Great Britain, ranked 14th in the country, is played on the second weekend of November. Tournament dates (10-11 November alternate. 11-12 November) and venue will be determined by the British Tennis Association.
– Of course we would love to play at home because it means a lot for the girls to show themselves to the younger players at home. Now we’ve got an away game and after that we have to think more positively. It will be a fun game and I know our girls know theirs very well. It will be a good challenge and I am really looking forward to it. They have many good players, where Emma Raduganu stands out. If he is there, it will be an even tougher task, says BJKC captain Johanna Larsson after the draw.
A win for Blue-Yellow would see Sweden advance to the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers, a direct qualifier for a place in the finals of the Team Tennis World Cup – the Billie Jean King Cup Final. If they fail in the play-offs, next year’s Europe-Africa Zone Group 1 matches await.
– After a week in Turkey, you feel a bit tired and lethargic, but now that you know who is waiting for you in the next match, you are excited again. You may already start feeling a craving and slowly start preparing. There were ten teams behind us in Turkey and the fact that we progressed was very well done by us. However, the job is far from over because if we lose the play-off, promotion in Turkey doesn’t mean much. Then we’re back to square one. That is the harsh reality. We’re not done, but we’ll win and get to the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers.
