Jessica Ennis was expected to win Olympic gold in the heptathlon. The fact that Greg Rutherford also won gold in the long jump and Mo Farah in the 10,000m made the second night of athletics at the London Olympics even more memorable for Great Britain.
Great Britain's third gold medal of the evening was won by Mo Farah in the 10,000m with a time of 27.30.42. Farah achieved victory in the last race, as he surprised American Galen Rupp by finishing in second place, ahead of Ethiopian Tariku Bekele. Kenenisa Bekele, who won Olympic gold in Beijing and Athens, finished fourth.
In the long jump final, Greg Rutherford surprised with his Olympic gold with a score of 8.31. The Briton beat runner-up Mitchell Watt from Australia by 15 cm. American Will Clay won the bronze medal with a score of 8.12. The American defeated Swede Michel Torneus by one centimeter.
No one can stop Jessica Ennis from getting the gold medal in the heptathlon. The British woman dominated the competition, setting a new national record with 6,955 points. German Lily Schwarzkopf came in second place with 6,649, while Tatiana Tjirnova, the bronze medalist, got 6,628 points.
