Astara – one of the world's leading mobility companies – has revealed its team participating in the 2024 Dakar Rally.
Astara competes in the world's most grueling off-road competition with two female drivers in Astara 02 concept cars, which are 100% powered by synthetic fuel. The Spanish duo of Laia Sanz and Uruguayan Patricia Pita are also making history in the rally: it is the first time that both drivers in a team competing in the T1.2 Ultimate class are women.
Astara is participating in the Dakar Rally for the third year in a row. The Astara team is the Dakar leader in its commitment to sustainability. Ahead of the 2024 rally, the team has optimized the synthetic fuel formulation to achieve a completely carbon neutral footprint. After the competition, Astara measures, reports and compensates for the direct and indirect CO2 emissions of the entire team, as in previous years. To reduce carbon emissions, the team uses renewable fuel in all six of its vehicles.
Spaniard Laia Sanz, who drives the Astara II car, participated in Dakar on a motorcycle no less than 11 times. She is the most successful and experienced enduro racer ever in the women's category. In the car category, she participated in Dakar for the third time.
“It is a great honor to compete for the second year in a row in the Astara team. The development of our car has taken important steps forward. It is one hundred percent emissions neutral, lighter and offers better performance. With hard work we will achieve what we have planned,” says Sanz.
Team Astara is a Dakar team founded in 2021 with the aim of showing that technical excellence makes it possible to compete while respecting the environment. The Astara 02 Concept is a rear-wheel drive car with a 2.9 V6 Biturbo engine designed for desert rallying, with many improvements compared to the Dakar Rally of previous years.
The 46th Dakar Rally will be held for the fifth time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from January 5 to 19. The rally consists of a route of more than 5,000 km.
