Since the team reached the qualifiers in which the best 16 countries in the world participated, Mikael Ymer (24 years old) announced that he had ended his career. As recently as this weekend, information came out that 25-year-old Dragos Madaras is under investigation by the Tennis Integrity Unit, ITIA. He is now missing for personal reasons.
Aren’t you curious to contact Madaras when information like this comes up?
-We have communication with the players and everything like that is confidential. In Madara’s case, he informed our captain that he was not with us for personal reasons and then it was up to him if he wanted to tell us, Sjöö explains.
But with this new circumstance surrounding Madaras, don’t you make an extra effort to communicate with the player and not wait for these personal reasons?
– We have ongoing contact with ITIA because we do a lot of work annually on these issues, not least when we have international competitions on home soil, but there is no information from ITIA at this stage.
“He can comment on it himself.”
National team captain Johan Heidsberg did not try to get any explanation from Madaras.
– Dragos said it was for personal reasons and I settled on that and if he wanted he could comment on it himself, Heidsberg says.
Despite the loss, there is an atmosphere full of hope ahead of the Davis Cup finals next week.
– It is sad that we do not have the first and third. But we performed well when we were underdogs, and I am looking forward to the match with confidence,” says Christer Siu.
Mikael Yamer has a suspension until January 2025 due to deficiencies in residency reports, but the association has not released him.
– We will have constant contact with Mikael, who has done a lot of positive things for Swedish tennis, not least in the Davis Cup, says Seu of the 24-year-old.
