33-year-old Eileen White scored two goals during this summer’s European Championships. A tournament in which England won the gold medal at home, after defeating Germany in the final 2-1 after extra time.
On Monday, she announced that her career was over. I wrote in a statement:
“I have always wanted to make this decision on my own terms. Now is the time to say goodbye to football and see the next generation shine.”
“Dreams come true on July 31”
Since her England debut in 2010, White has played 113 caps for England and scored 52 goals, the most in England women’s team history. She also competed in the Olympic Games for Great Britain in 2012. There were three goals.
The gold medal at the European Championships on home soil this summer was the perfect farewell and the end of an era in England.
“My dreams came true on July 31, when we became European champions. Playing for England was and always will be the best. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams.”
Since 2019, the striker has played for Manchester City. The star grew up at Arsenal before leaving in 2005 for London rival Chelsea. Since then, there have been matches in many other English clubs.
