A huge international success for A Royal Affair

The international success of Nikolaj Arcel's A Royal Affair, starring Mads Mikkelsen, Alicia Vikander and Mikkel Bo Volsgaard, continues. A Royal Affair is produced by Zentropa with Film i Väst as co-producer.

The critically acclaimed and internationally award-winning film grossed over $540,000 when it debuted in Australia, significantly more than Italian for Beginners (Scherfig, 2000) and After the Wedding (Bier 2006).
Two weeks after its premiere, A Royal Affair is now the highest-grossing Danish-language film in Australia. During the second week, the number of moviegoers increased by ten percent on average, and the film's total revenues are expected to soon reach more than one million US dollars.

In Great Britain, the film also broke cinema records. After five weeks, the film had grossed over £300,000, beating films such as The Party (Vinterberg, 1999), The Idiots (von Trier, 1999) and Mifune (Kragh-Jacobsen, 1999). Thus, A Royal Affair is the most successful Danish film in the United Kingdom to date.

“A Royal Affair” has also been selected for North America's largest film festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, which begins September 6. The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the United States in November.

“A Royal Affair” has been sold to over 78 countries, and had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival this year, where it won Silver Bear Awards for Best Screenplay (Nikolai Arcel, Rasmus Hesterberg) and Best Actor (Mikkel Bo Volsgaard). To date, the film has grossed over US$6 million. A Royal Affair is produced by Zentropa with Film i Väst as co-producer. The Swedish distributor is Nordisk Film (Swedish premiere April 13).
