Joachim Silverdale, I’ve seen Dune. how did you find it?

I feel like I’m still trying to rub the desert sands out of my eyes, because this is a science fiction story of absolutely insane galactic proportions. We talk about interplanetary animosities, deep dives into things like religion and culture, treacherous dagger strikes in the back and sand snakes the size of tall buildings.

One thing I can say now. It is supernaturally beautiful and is the best photography of sand dunes to date.

Yes because this isn’t my first attempt at filming this book, is it?

No. A legendary attempt was made by director Alejandro Jodorowsky, which eventually went awry in the ’70s, and many, including himself, consider David Lynch’s ’80s version to be a somewhat unsuccessful attempt.

But, what is so much attraction in the dunes then?

The book is a mysterious and legendary brick.

Herbert was smart enough to chart his world with the help of a fantastic spacecraft, but also to give plenty of room for things like religious rituals or different customs of peoples.

This makes the reader suddenly stand next to Paul on the sand on Arrakis.

But that’s also what makes filming Dune difficult. And the reason director Denis Villeneuve succeeded in this movie is because he tried to portray just that, the feeling of the book.

Is this the movie that excites sci-fi skeptics?

Well, but in Dion’s best moments, I just sat there in the dark and sighed in my stomach and blew, while at the same time wiping the sweat of my hands on my pants. The space felt small and the place felt huge, just as it should be.
