In 2006, the first part of the Saints Row series of games was released – a title with an open game world and themes with criminal gangs that was in many ways compared to the famous Grand Theft Auto games. The game has received generally good reviews, leading to a string of sequels, with the latest Saints Row IV released eight years ago. The latter game also received a standalone expansion in the form of Saints Row: Gat out of Hell, which was released in 2015.
During the ongoing game fair Gamescom, developer Volition is now announcing a new game in the series. In short, the title will be Saints Row, as this time it was not a sequel but rather the so-called Reboot from the series. The game takes place before the previous parts of the Saints Row series, with all-new main characters and a new city in the form of Santo Ileso to explore and take advantage of.
The game takes place in what the developers call the “weird American West”. A strange, sunny desert with many illegal antics. The difference from the previous parts of the series is that you are often in nature away from the neon signs and skyscrapers of the city.
In a preview of the game in free zone Matthias Frost says urban environments from previous titles can now be shared more with experiences close to nature, for example, the desert. However, the fun theme that the series is known for, with cheesy lines and crazy antics, is not lost in the new game but is expected to remain a permanent feature.
Saints Row will be released on February 25, 2022 for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and for PC/Windows. For the latter platform, the Epic Games Store is valid for an exclusive time period.
