Sweden had about 1,500 spectators in attendance for its group stage matches against Spain in Seville, and against Slovakia and Poland in St Petersburg.
Despite the fact that it was scattered in the stands, the rising blue and yellow fans made themselves heard and supported the Swedish players up to seven points and a group victory.
– It’s great to play with the fans, it’s been a while for me. Robin Quaison said after the victory over Slovakia with the support of Emil Forsberg:
We have had very good support from the Swedish fans during all the tournaments.
But in the next match, the final round of 16 against Ukraine, Sweden can not count on strong support. A ten-day quarantine, and a negative coronavirus test on the second and eighth days, applies to those traveling to the UK under these circumstances.
Albin Ekdal thinks this is something UEFA would have thought beforehand.
Sadly, the European Championship play-off will be played without Swedish fans. I think it’s bad planning, to put matches in a country where no one is allowed in. But one can hope that the Swedes who live in Glasgow or London will come. The midfielder said they wanted to see Swedish shirts in the stands.
Victor Cleason, Som He decided the final group match against Poland with his late goal 3-2, on the same track and thinks it odd that the chances of watching the European Football Championship depend on which country the match is played in.
It’s sad that we can’t get the number of Swedish fans we want. It’s sad that there can’t be the same rules everywhere in Europe and you don’t have the opportunity to get to all the matches everywhere.
Sweden vs Ukraine match will be played on Tuesday 29th June at 9pm.
