The government today approved regulations related to the implementation of national law relating to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). The National Law on EPPO comes into force on 10 June 2021 in accordance with the regulations.
The National Law supporting EU regulation was approved in Finland on 15 January 2021 by the Office of the European Attorney General, and the regulations now in place allow it to come into force. The law on national participation in the activities of the Office of the European Attorney General of Finland, e.g. Preliminary Inquiry Act and the Attorney General’s Office Act.
The company, which began operations this week, has a federal attorney’s office based in Luxembourg and European representative lawyers operating in member countries. The EPPO has the power as an independent prosecution authority within the EU to investigate crimes against the EU budget and to prosecute suspected criminals in national courts. The establishment of the EPPO is expected to have a positive financial impact at the union level by more effectively investigating and prosecuting frauds against union funds in the courts of member states.
Sub-law on Cooperation in Criminal Matters between Finland and the United Kingdom
The Prime Minister today proposed to the President legislation on the use of provisions relating to extradition for criminal offenses and the exchange of criminal record information in trade agreements between the European Union and the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. To be confirmed. This law is intended to come into force on 10 June 2021.
Following the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU in January 2020, the New EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement has been in force since 1 January 2021. The law now adopted contains provisions for contract and extradition for offenses and fulfilled national laws. The exchange of criminal record information may not be used independently in all respects. At the same time, the law relating to international legal aid in criminal cases was amended.
