Next week, Norway will take the next step in its restrictions on restrictions. After that, larger groups can meet and alcohol can be served until midnight, announced Prime Minister Erna Solberg (center). But she cannot promise that it will be possible to travel abroad this summer.

Norway will ease restrictions introduced to slow the spread of the coronavirus in four stages. The first was taken in mid-April, when the rules were loosened in areas with low infection. Now the government thinks it is time for the next step.

– The government believes it is justified to go ahead with the reopening on May 27th. Then we move to the second step, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg at a press conference.

Local differences

Then municipalities with a low prevalence of infection can make their own decisions about whether nurseries and schools can open their doors for more on-site teaching. Physical education will also increase in colleges and universities.

Additionally, alcoholic drinks are allowed until midnight and larger groups may meet in public. But in municipalities with a high prevalence of infection, local restrictions may be more stringent than national rules.

We’re entering a period with an even bigger difference in infection control rules, Solberg says.

Later on Friday, authorities in Oslo will announce what applies, among other things, to the capital’s liquor license.

Norwegian holiday

In the event of travel abroad, the period of banning non-essential travel is extended until July 1. Foreign Minister In Eriksen Surid (h) refers to the health authorities ’advice that more residents should be vaccinated before giving the green light to travel abroad.

Solberg cannot promise that it will be possible to travel abroad this summer.

If you want predictability, our advice is to plan a vacation in Norway, she says.
