The United Kingdom announced today its national target for the Paris Agreement. The country must reduce emissions by at least 68 percent by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.
this is good Slightly higher than Sweden’s national goals and a level that is difficult for EU heads of state and government to achieve.
The path to the goal is through the UK’s green grants, a ten-point plan for a ‘green industrial revolution’ that promises 250,000 new jobs in the UK, as the state and companies are expected to invest more than 450 billion SEK over ten years.
Advertising It comes before the Digital Climate Summit on December 12, the same day that the Paris Agreement celebrates its fifth anniversary.
“Today, we are taking the lead in a new and ambitious goal to reduce our emissions by 2030, faster than any major economy. This is a global effort and at the summit next week the world can meet us with its ambitious plans to cut emissions,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a commentary.
Robin Henrickson Acting Director of the Climate Program at the Research Center Force Lactwell Halparheit said of the letter:
“The 2030 goal which aligns with the net zero goal by 2050 which does not delay emissions cuts to the next decade but does so here and now is an inspiration. In the long term, I am convinced that one benefits from making change early rather than late, and the political leadership seems to be in Britain has understood that. Of course, it puts a certain amount of pressure on the European Union and its next goals for 2030, 55 per cent do not seem ambitious along with the figure of 68 per cent and Boris Johnson may understand that. “
