With its new virtual reality headset, HTC is giving up on fighting Facebook

HTC appears to have given up hope of reaching ordinary consumers. With two new virtual reality headsets, the Vive Pro 2 and Vive Focus 3, the focus is mostly on corporate customers and professional users.

Both devices have a resolution of 5k (2.5k per eye), a 120-degree field of view, and RGB sub-pixels that are said to provide sharper reproduction and softer animations. Both devices are expensive: the Vive Pro 2 costs nearly 9,000 SEK, provided you already have a performance-compatible PC and external tracking devices. The Vive Focus 3 is a stand-alone headphone that costs 15,590 SEK.

The Oculus Quest 2 can be purchased from Facebook relatively for less than 4,000 SEK, and it comes equipped with the same type of Snapdragon XR2 platform as the Vive Focus 3. HTC confirms that its XR2 hardware is optimized to be pushed to the limit at all times. Additionally, the company reports in its press materials that the Focus 3 is constructed with a magnesium alloy that is said to make the unit lighter and more durable.

Speaking of the Oculus, the Focus 3 comes with new manual controls that are little reminiscent of those used in the Quest hardware on Facebook.

Vive Pro 2 will start sales on June 4. The corresponding date for Focus 3 is June 24th.
