The RTX 5080 could come in a version with 24GB of video memory

A few days ago, the basic specifications of Nvidia's upcoming graphics cards in the Geforce RTX 50 series, specifically the top models RTX 5080 and 5090, were leaked. Something that many have noticed is how big of a difference there is between the two models, including that the 5090 is said to get 32GB of video memory while the 5080 only gets 16GB.

Over the course of the day on Friday, user Polymorph wrote on the Chiphell forum that Nvidia will later launch a 24GB model of the 5080. Polymorph has previously shared, among other things, the first images of Nvidia's GA102 circuit and its RTX 40 series specifications.

according to WCCF technology There are two possible paths for Nvidia to the 24GB 5080. A less likely explanation is that the company is using a stripped-down version of the GB202 circuit from the 5090, with a 384-bit memory bus. It is likely that the company is taking advantage of the fact that GDDR7 memory will come in different forms with a capacity of 3 GB per circuit.

This means that Nvidia can use the same number of memory chips with the same memory bus and still increase the memory size from 16 to 24 GB. If this is true, it is also theoretically possible for Nvidia to release an upgraded model of the RTX 5090 with 48GB of memory.

According to sources among others Edge Nvidia will launch the RTX 5080 and 5090 during CES in early January.
