A new, more visible Samsung Galaxy Z Fold could be imminent

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim has resurfaced with a new name and new information suggesting it's imminent.

Last spring, rumors swirled that Samsung would release multiple Fold models when it launched in July. There was talk of a thinner version called the Slim and a cheaper Fold. None of that materialized, and one could assume they were just stray tracks.

But now the Slim model has appeared under a new name, with more facts and an approximate launch date. It is the well-known leaker Evan Blass who got his hands on the phone. If Blass is to be believed, the phone will be called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, and it will actually be released in September if many rumors are to be believed.

According to Evan Blass, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition should be 4.9mm thick when unfolded and 10.6mm when folded. That's still not as thin as the Honor Magic V3 or Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, but it's noticeably thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 5.6mm when unfolded and 12.1mm when folded.

However, the special edition Galaxy Z Fold will not only be thinner, but will also have larger displays. The outer display should be 6.5 inches, compared to 6.3 inches on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the lower display should be 8 inches, compared to 7.6 inches.

The cameras also appear to be more prominent on the Galaxy Z Fold special edition. In a separate tweet, Evan Blass wrote that the main camera should be 200MP, with the same camera sensor as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. It should be able to deliver 2x zoom photos with the same sharpness as if it were optically zoomed. We’ve previously had leaks that the ultra-wide camera will be 12MP, but we don’t know much more about the potential optical zoom camera.

We can probably count on this to be an expensive story, and perhaps even a limited edition. According to some rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is only set to be released in Korea and China, where it will arrive in September and October, respectively. Given the frequency and detail of the rumors, we should get clear information soon enough.
