The municipality invests in health to make women feel better!

Of the approximately 2,500 municipal employees, 80% are women and more than half are between the ages of 40 and 60, the age at which women are most affected by hormonal changes. General surveys show that 75% of all women in menopause experience symptoms that negatively impact their quality of life.

“It doesn’t have to be this way, there’s a lot you can do yourself and there’s help you can get,” says Helen Rastrom, health and rehabilitation developer and one of the initiative’s initiators.

Therefore, Strängnäs Municipality has now started a health care initiative with lectures for all employees and managers about menopause and hormonal health, in order to raise knowledge and increase understanding about menopause. Managers need the knowledge and tools to be able to support employees at all stages of life.

Through lectures and the opportunity for individual support for all staff and managers, we hope to increase knowledge and understanding of how menopause affects women and what you can do to feel good throughout all stages of life. Managers need the knowledge and tools to be able to support employees in the best way possible.

– It is important to increase knowledge about hormonal health and menopause for both men and women in our workplaces. We need to understand how we can contribute to creating a more tolerant and supportive environment for women, which benefits the individual and, in turn, the population, says Lars Ekström, the municipality’s director.

Although menopause is a natural part of all women’s lives, it is still surrounded by many taboos and misconceptions. With this investment, Strängnäs Municipality hopes to break some of the taboos and increase women’s health and well-being.
