Starmer in his first speech as Prime Minister: “Work starts immediately” Aldinget

Social Democratic Labor won a convincing victory in Britain's election on Thursday, winning a total of 412 of the 650 seats in the General Assembly. The election victory ended 14 years of conservative rule in the country.

On Friday, party leader Keir Starmer arrived at 10 Downing Street to deliver his first speech as Prime Minister. People have voted for change, he said.

– Let your government start by treating everyone in this country with respect.

– Change work starts immediately. Let's rebuild Britain.

Sunak resigned

The result was a disastrous election for the Conservative Party, the Tories. Within five years, 365 seats have been reduced to 121. Recently departed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced earlier on Friday that he would also step down as party chief once a replacement is found.

– I'm sorry. I have heard your anger and disappointment and I take responsibility for this loss,” Sunak said in his final Prime Ministerial address.

The Liberal Democrats managed to increase from 11 seats to 71 seats. Meanwhile, UKIP's former party leader, Nigel Farage, managed to lead his new party, Reform UK, to its top four seats in the House of Commons.

Election results

  • Labour, 412 seats, 33.7 per cent of the vote.
  • Conservative Party, 121 seats, 23.7 percent of the vote.
  • Liberal Democrats, 71 seats, 12.2 percent of the vote.
  • Scottish Nationalist Party, 9 seats, 2.5 percent of the vote.
  • Other parties, 37 mandates, 27.9 percent of votes.

In each constituency, one mandate is at stake. The candidate with the most votes wins.
