Asiyat, 19, had just gotten married five days earlier when she lured her new husband into an “escape room” in the Dagestan city of Makhachkala with her friend Medina.

But what was going to be an exciting evening of entertainment mixed with just the right amount of horror. Instead, it became a real nightmare.

Their escape room is inspired by American horror movies and features a crazy family from Texas, as well as a killer clown called “Pennywise”. As part of the room's horror entertainment, the two women are chained up in a dark room. Asiat is in a chair and Medina is in handcuffs.

But what exactly happened that caused the evening to turn into hell remains unclear.

Employee playing with gasoline

According to Russia's state-controlled RT news channel, one of the employees allegedly soaked his glove in gasoline and set it on fire. Then, while waving a saw, he dropped the glove, which went straight into a gasoline can in the corner.

The fire quickly spread through the room as the women struggled against their restraints.

According to The Sun, other witnesses said one of the women was doused with petrol and the employee lit a match nearby to scare her, but the petrol caught fire and she instantly burst into flames.

The staff desperately tried to find the keys to the women's shackles in time, as the flames spread. Asiyat eventually managed to free herself from the chair, but while trying to save her friend she inhaled a lot of smoke.

Both were alive when emergency services rescued them from the fire, but by then it was too late. Madina died from severe burns to her body and the Asian women from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Asiat's husband is still fighting for his life in the hospital due to burns.
