Endrick's winning goal against England at Wembley was legal despite the VAR calling it offside.

The 17-year-old became the youngest player to score in Wembley's history when he netted in the 80th minute. The goal sparked wild celebrations from Endrick after opening his international account.

He scored after Jordan Pickford blocked Vinicius Junior's initial effort – with the Real Madrid star getting past the Three Lions defence. The England stars were certain that the goal should have been disallowed due to Endrick's offside from the first pass towards his teammate. After a VAR check, the strike was allowed. It has now been explained why the target was completely legal.

While the youngster was offside from the start, he did not interfere as the ball was passed to Vinicius Junior. He then found himself behind the ball from the Real Madrid striker's first shot, meaning he was back on the field again.

Former England goalkeeper Rob Green made this clear during joint commentary. Applying the re-goal rule, he said: “Andrik offside. But don't interfere. Vinicius Junior's timing was perfect. We know the result from there.”

While there was controversy surrounding Endrick's goal, former Three Lions star Joe Cole was full of praise for the youngster and his anticipation of scoring. He said after the end of the match: “He will not score an easier goal. This is what I am talking about, the decision to close the back door.
