The recall concerns the popular chogoku sourdough breakfast bread, known for its chewy texture.

In at least two of the packages, consumers encountered a surprising sight, to say the least, between slices of bread: rat parts. A spokesman for Pasco Shikishima said it was a “little black mouse”.

The company announced that the bread was sold in 15 different Japanese prefectures and was produced at a factory west of Tokyo.

Apologize

All 104,000 contaminated bread packages have been recalled, but other products in the range will also be removed from shelves as a precaution. Now the company will investigate the cause, which is still unclear.
