The Kasbah has already hosted several productions, including the recent Netflix drama Bodies, which has doubled its size in wartime London.

Associated British Ports (ABP) is behind the idea and is also considering building a water tank, a sought-after production facility.

Emma Lingard from the Academic Bridge Program said there had been a number of inquiries.

She said the main attraction at present is the large number of old buildings in the area and that they are located on private land.

“[Production companies] “I find it very special here because of the nature of the buildings,” she said.

She explained that outside of London there are few areas that have so many historic buildings together on a private estate.

“In most of the places they film, there will be residents, shop owners and members of the public to deal with,” she said.

“Here we can close things down and [film crews] They have it all to themselves. They love it.”

Other productions filmed in the area included the feature films Atonement and This is England.

Ms Lingard said the ABP was exploring the possibility of building a water tank for filming, as the only existing tank in the UK was at Pinewood Studios near London. “We understand he has been detained for four years.”

The Kasbah area is located next to the town's fishing pier and has been turned into a conservation area by North East Lincolnshire Council.

It is filled with buildings dating from the Victorian era and the early 20th century, including eight nationally listed.

In 2021, plans were announced to redevelop six former harbor buildings as studios for artists and entrepreneurs.
