Urging young women to get vaccinated against HPV –

The Vastmanland region offers women born between 1994-1999 free vaccination against HPV, HPV, as part of a national project aimed at eliminating cervical cancer.

According to a survey conducted by the Cancer Foundation, 75% of this age group mistakenly believe that they have an appropriate vaccine. Vastmanland is one of the regions with the highest HPV vaccination rate, at 43 percent. In order to reach the national goal of eliminating cervical cancer by 2027, at least 70 percent of women in this age group need to be vaccinated.

The vaccination rate at the national level shows that we have done a good job. We have had a high level of commitment among health centers and are working with significant communication efforts in the form of campaigns to increase participation. However, we need to be better – we need to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination, even if you have been vaccinated before, says Björn Svartsgaard, chief physician at the Women's Clinic.

The previous version of the vaccine does not provide good protection. In order for us to stop the spread, you need to upgrade with the new vaccine. I urge everyone born between 1994 and 1999 to get vaccinated to protect their health and the health of others. In this way, we can eliminate the disease within a few years.
