Where was the film filmed and prepared?

With arrival Wonka, fans are wondering where the movie was filmed and the filming locations. Where was the movie filmed? Was it all just in a studio or was the filming done as well? Here's everything you need to know about Wonka's production.

Where was Wonka filmed?

While most of Wonka's production took place at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, a few scenes were also filmed in Bath, Oxford, Lyme Regis, St Albans and London in the United Kingdom.

Throughout Wonka's production, several sound stages were set up at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire, to film most of the film. But many crucial scenes were also filmed in the following locations within UK cities:

  • St Paul's Cathedral in London
  • Bridge of Sighs in Oxford
  • Mapledurham in Berkshire.
  • Verulamium Park in St. Albans
  • Rivoli Hall in Broccoli
  • (Lyme Regis in Dorset).
  • The hallway in Bath

Exterior locations such as Lyme Regis helped build the world through the depiction of the city's harbour. The Bridge of Sighs is also seen in the film's giraffe sequence. Meanwhile, interior settings such as St. Paul's Cathedral were used to depict places such as the Chocolate Cartel base.

Where is Wonka set?

The name of the city where Wonka's boat arrived is not mentioned, but it is assumed to be London in the 1930s.

The film does not give us a specific location where Wonka arrived to set up his base or where he took on the Chocolate Cartel. But given that much of the filming took place in and around London, we can assume that Wonka featured a fictional recreation of 1930s London.

It is also possible that similar to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka's town is intentionally not named, making us assume that the film takes place in an unnamed town in England.
