A bad ending for the French broadcaster – Sport – svenska.yle.fi

When the race opened, French anchor Floria Joy was about ten meters behind the tight trio in the women's 4 x 400 metres. But with a stunning final race, she overtook everyone and gave the two French sisters the gold medal.

Ukraine, Great Britain and Russia were on the losing side as the final lap began. I felt that France was subservient. Ukrainian broadcaster, 400m individual silver medalist Olha Zemlyak, withdrew first.

In fact, Zemlyak led the entire final lap – except for the final metre. Guei saved his energy for the last hundred laps and put together a huge final sprint. First it crossed Russia, then Great Britain and in the last meter also Ukraine.

France won a new European annual best of 3.24.27 and beat defending champions Ukraine by five hundredths. Great Britain anchor Margaret Adeoye was about to pass the stunned Zemljak but was two hundredths behind.

Ronnie decided to follow the men

In the men's long relay there was only one favourite. Great Britain was expected to decide quickly, leaving others to fight for the less noble medals. but not.

Above all, Russia refused to let the British go. Michael Bingham had a weaker than expected third leg and Nikita Uglov led until the final change.

But in the opening stage, Great Britain had Martin Rooney, the new European 400m champion, and he proved he was up to the mark. Rooney put the ball into the final corner and the Brits won in a time of 2.58.79.

Russia won the silver medal and Poland defeated France in the bronze medal match. Great Britain's time was the fourth best ever in Europe in the 4 x 400 metres.
