The remains of missing British Sarah Everard are found in the woods – police officer suspected of murder | Foreigner

On Friday, British police confirmed that the remains that were found in the woods in Kent in southeastern Britain belonged to the missing 33-year-old Sarah Everard. Everard’s disappearance sparked strong feelings and criticism of the police, both inside and outside the UK.

The last picture of Sarah Everard was captured on March 3 by a CCTV as Everard was walking home through a green area in south London.

She talks on the phone, is wearing a mouthguard, and has just visited her friend.

One week later, the remains of Everard were found an hour’s drive southeast of London, in a forest in Kent.

Police confirmed Friday evening that it was Everard.

A police officer suspected of the murder

On Tuesday, about a week after Everard’s disappearance, a 48-year-old policeman was arrested on suspicion of murder.

In London, the man works for a police department that monitors parliamentary and diplomatic buildings.

The man, who lives in Kent, attracted police attention after his car was seen on a CCTV in the area where Everard was last seen.

A few days before Everard’s disappearance, it is also alleged that the arrested police revealed themselves to visitors to the restaurant.

The case is still being investigated, but the police are criticized for allowing the suspect to continue on duty while the investigations are ongoing.

Police have been criticized for blaming the victims

Police have also received criticism for issuing a warning to women in South London after Everard’s disappearance.

Women were urged to be careful not to walk alone.

The statement sparked outrage because it considered blaming the victims, not the perpetrators.

Demonstration is being planned despite coronavirus restrictions

A demonstration is scheduled to take place on Saturday in London to draw attention to violence against women.

Mary Morgan, one of the people behind the demonstration, told The Guardian that police had previously taken a positive view of the demonstration, but it has now been banned due to the Corona pandemic.

The demonstration was to consist mainly of a minute of silence, while the participants keep their distance and wear mouthguards.

It is not clear if the demonstration will end, but in just one hour, the activists were able to collect nearly 35,000 euros to pay for the costs of the legal proceedings that may follow for those who participate.
