Former Starbreeze and Grin president Bo Andersson has started a new AAA studio

He will do first person work for PC and now consoles.

After two years out of the gaming spotlight, former Starbreeze and Grin boss Bo Andersson is setting up a new development studio. The name will be Galleon Studio, and the ambitions are high: they’re going to make AAA shooters for now, consoles and PC. This is what Anderson wrote on LinkedIn.

Galleon Studios is an ambitious new developer focused on creating fantastic adventures and action-packed, dynamic experiences in the triple-A space for first-person shooters for the next consoles and PC.

It’s hard to find more information than that at the moment.

In 1997, Bo Andersson, along with his brother Ulf, founded the game developer Grin. The studio had a huge hit with the two Ghost Recon: Advanced Warrior-Games in 2006 and 2007, but after two major film licenses (terminator salvationAnd Wanted: Weapons of Destiny) Within a few months, in August 2009, Grin went bankrupt.

Then the Bo Andersson Overkill (as it happened payday-the games). In 2012, the company was acquired by Starbreeze, but in practice the deal meant Overkill changed its name to Starbreeze. Several old Starbreeze employees (as I did Riddick) started and made Machinegames Wolfenstein– the games. Starbreeze “New” achieved success with Payday 2but when the next project – Overkill’s The Walking Dead – Released in November 2018, the reviews are great and the buyers are way less than expected. And in December of that year, the funds ran out and the company applied for reconstruction. At the same time, Bo Anderson left the CEO position.
