Support for the terminal depot in Osthammar and Oskarshamn reached a record high

Support for terminal disposal facilities in Östhammar and Oskarshamn is stronger than ever. 86 percent of the municipality’s residents support the SKB’s plans to build a final spent nuclear fuel depot in Forsmark and a packaging facility in Oskarshamn. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by Novus in the spring of 2023.

– We are proud of the great support and trust of the municipality’s residents. It creates good conditions for the eventual disposal of used nuclear fuel in Sweden, which is important for fossil-free electricity production, says Anna Borelius, director of communications at SKB.

– SKB has a world-leading, certified method for final storage of leftover products from nuclear power plants. Two municipalities want to host final disposal facilities and funding is being secured. It is a sustainable system where the generations that use nuclear energy take responsibility for the entire life cycle.

Just over 90 per cent in both municipalities believe that Sheikh Khalifa Medical City will contribute positively to local development.

Attractive municipalities are important so that we can be employed and that our employees want to live and work there. Here, of course, we want to contribute because we are going to be working in the 90s, says Anna Borelius.
